Year 4
Meet the Team
Mrs Flack Mrs Turney Mr Stone
Welcome to Year 4!
In Year 4, we embark on an exciting journey of learning and discovery. The classrooms are vibrant and supportive environments where curiosity is encouraged, and every student is valued. This year, we will explore fascinating topics in science, dive into captivating stories in literacy, and tackle challenging problems in mathematics. We also have exciting projects and activities planned that will help us grow both academically and personally.
Reading books and Reading Records need to be in school every day. Please ensure that your child reads as much as possible at home each week and that this is recorded in their Reading Record. As children become more confident, they may fill out their own entries by sharing something with us that they have either learnt or enjoyed about what they have read. Please remember to include the page numbers and title of the book.
Children will receive a weekly spelling list that they are encouraged to practise at home. This is available on Spelling Shed, where each child has their own individual login. A weekly spelling test will be completed on Tuesdays.
Each child will be given a Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) login as well as access to Maths Shed. We encourage each child to practise their times tables as frequently as possible to boost their fluency and recall in multiplication and division. It is important in Year 4 for the children to be fluent in all their times tables by the end of the year. In June, they will undertake the government's multiplication check test, where they will be asked 25 random times table multiplication questions.
Our P.E. lesson will be on Thursday and Friday. Please send your child to school in correct P.E. Kit on these days (no branded or logo hoodies or joggers). If your child wears earrings, they will need to be removed prior to the sessions. Children are unable to participate when wearing earrings or any other kind of jewellery that has not been removed or taped up. On Friday, we take the children swimming as part of the PE curriculum. Children will be taught by experienced instructors and will be grouped according to their ability. Please can children wear their PE kit on Friday and bring a swimming bag with a costume, towel and goggles.
We are very much looking forward to working with your child during their time in Year 4. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
