Black History Month is observed every October in Britain and it is an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding contributions black people have made to British society. To help us celebrate Black History Month, we welcomed Kat Merrick from Katterpillar Creatives into our school. Kat delivered three interactive drama workshops that immersed the children in Black History.
Children in Year 2 explored the
African Tale ‘Anansi the Story Keeper’.
Children in Year 4 explored the lives of extraordinary black men and women.
Children in Year 6 explored the journey of the passengers aboard the Empire Windrush, and the challenges that they faced during this time.
Kat commented on how incredibly polite, mature and respectful all the children were throughout the sessions and how they brought great ideas and creativity to the room. Kat called all the children a credit to the school!
A special thank you to Miss Elmellas for all her hard work.
