EPR
Overview
The belief in the unique dignity of the human person made in the image and likeness of God underpins the approach to all education in a Catholic school.
“The inclusion of positive, person-centred education is at the heart of Catholic Christian education. This education is about the growth, development and journey of the whole human person towards becoming ‘fully human, fully alive’ as a unique creation made in God’s image”. (‘Education in Sexuality’ CES)
We therefore aim to assist a pupil’s spiritual, moral and emotional development towards Christian maturity. We work in partnership with parents and the parish to help each child realise their full potential so that they may make their own unique contribution to society.
Through a happy and stimulating environment, we encourage pupils’ growth in self-respect and a respect for others, acknowledging that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. We aim to help pupils to understand the nature of relationships and to encourage them to reflect on their own relationships and respect differences between people. Through EPR we ensure that pupils protect themselves and ask for help and support when needed. Children are encouraged to develop healthier, safer lifestyles and we help to prepare them to play an active role as Christian citizens in the wider society.
EPR requires sensitive teaching with pupil activities, discussions and support
materials being well matched to the age and level of understanding, needs
and concerns of the pupils. EPR is taught through our life style in school, discrete teaching time and cross curricularly through lessons such as Religious Education, Science and topic work.
